Oxford, OH, February 13, 2025 – Miami University and Matriculate have partnered to enhance access and bridge the college knowledge gap for talented high school students from low-income and historically underrepresented backgrounds. This collaboration makes Miami University Matriculate’s fifth Pathways Partner and the sole public institution involved in the Pathways program. It is also the second public university in the Midwest to join Matriculate’s College Partnerships initiative alongside Indiana University, the organization’s Advising Partner.
The Pathways Partnership program, launched in late 2024, aims to broaden opportunities for high-achieving high school students who possess the potential to succeed at institutions such as Miami University but have historically lacked the financial resources or support necessary to apply or attend. This program serves as an extension of Matriculate’s successful collaboration with national colleges and universities committed to increasing college accessibility for students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher and whose household income does not exceed $90,000.
As part of its commitment beginning with the Class of 2026, Miami University will assist in raising awareness about Matriculate’s program to eligible high school students, commit to meet the full financial need for at least two Matriculate High School Fellows, and assist with the recruitment of virtual college Advising Fellows on Miami University’s campus. Application fees will also be waived for all Matriculate High School Fellows who apply.
“We’re very excited to begin working with Matriculate to bring the reality of a college education to many families,” says Bethany Perkins, Assistant Vice President and Director of Admission at Miami University. “This partnership demonstrates our shared commitment to increasing college access for high-achieving students from low-income and historically marginalized communities across the nation while also lowering the financial barriers many families face through the enrollment process.”
“We’re grateful to Miami University for joining as one of new Pathways Partners and our larger college partnership family,” stated Bryan Contreras, Matriculate’s Managing Director of Program Partnerships and Growth. “With this partnership, together we’ll be able to provide students and families in the Midwest with a path forward towards achieving their dream of a better life through higher education.”
Established in 2014, Matriculate has served over 17,000 high school students nationwide through its innovative near-peer advising model. Matriculate’s work has been widely recognized for its impact on expanding access to selective colleges. Research shows that students participating in Matriculate’s advising programs are significantly more likely to attend high graduation rate colleges and universities.
